Sustainability, the green element in space

The green element in the design significantly reduces negative effects on users

In a study carried out in several countries in the EMEA* region, the main lessons of the research are shared:

  • The most commonly used colors in the office are white and gray;
  • Only 45% of employees surveyed have live plants in their office;
  • 47% of respondents do not have a window with a view of the outside in their workspace;
  • 30% of employees said their workspace doesn't feel bright or spacious;
  • A third (33%) of respondents indicated that they do not have a quiet space to work when they are in their office;
  • 40% of employees reported feeling more productive in an office where they are alone;
  • 31% of respondents said they felt more productive in an office set up in an open space.

In the hope of demonstrating the instinctive and undeniable connection between humans and nature, biophilic design suggests introducing the green element into workspaces as an important component to worker performance, by highlighting human love for nature. As well as the reproduction of attitudes and emotions found in nature.

The office in its general definition is a production space, the evolution of the latter now makes it possible to observe the behavior of users within organizations and to identify the different trends, the introduction of the green element , the plant, reminds us how important it is to return to basics, the connection of humans to nature and to its source even in a space dedicated to work, but in the end, what does it denote?

This study indeed marks a break where the absence of nature in built interiors must be excluded from designs for the well-being of the user.

It goes without saying that all the criteria and conditions for a pleasant and comfortable working environment must be met.

It is in natural spaces that humans flourish the most, the challenge now is to find the balance by bringing nature back to the office to constantly bring these experiences back to users. By imitating the natural place in work spaces, the perception of work changes, the experiences lived on a daily basis are different, attractive and pleasant and influence performance.

Ultimately, we spend more time at work than at home! Human genius must be able to reconnect, wherever it is; to nature.

Biophilic design would then be one of the answers helping to transform the company from a place of production to a place of human and social experience.
